As of the 2009 school year, Technical Secondary Education is one of the alternatives of the Professional Technical Education Mode, within the framework of compulsory Secondary Education.
This technical training is a pedagogical unit, organized in a common training and an oriented training, which will respond to the areas of knowledge, the social world and work as expressed in Res. No. 5040/08.
Technical Secondary Education will be organized in two cycles: the Basic Technical Cycle lasting two years, common to all technical secondary education institutions, and the Higher Technical Cycle, lasting four years..
At the end of the 6th (sixth) year, students will access the certification that accredits the completion of secondary studies with the qualification established by the Provincial Directorate of the level, consigning the Technical orientation.
The purposes of the Secondary Level direct the knowledge for the Specific Technical Training of the basic cycle. In relation to the linking of knowledge of the world of work, it is proposed for the first two years, the knowledge of the local socio-productive system, characterized, among other things, by its different organizational models, by a permanent rhythm of innovations and of an increasing level of complexity, which requires knowledge with increasing logical and scientific support.
This implies including work as an object of knowledge to allow students to recognize, problematize and question the socio-productive world in which they are immersed and in which they will be incorporated.
In relation to citizenship training, it is intended to promote in students an awareness of the growing importance and presence of technology in local production processes, understanding that it is necessary to develop the operational capacity that allows them, as citizens of a democratic society , participate in the knowledge, its development and transformation, as well as, in the critical analysis about the social, environmental and productive problems that this causes, by virtue of improving the quality of life of society as a whole.
In relation to the acquisition of knowledge to continue their studies, it is necessary for students to understand the production of scientific and technological knowledge that has a profound impact on people's lives, its connection with research and productive and technological innovation, as well as the processes and scientific practices.
That is why, from the Specific Technical Training, in the basic cycle it is proposed to provide students with opportunities to understand technology as a human activity from a systemic approach, and its link with the different local socio-productive areas, analyzing the ability to add value from work, economic and environmental sustainability.
In addition, reflection on its historical and current constitution is proposed, in order to generate specific and generic capacities in students related to any sector of socio-productive activity. In this sense, one of the main characteristics of Specific Training in the Basic cycle is to promote the development of skills that will be necessary, whatever the Technique that the student chooses in the upper cycle. It is considered unavoidable that, in the middle of the last year, the learning situations are organized around the different local socio-productive activities, to provide the student with a contextualized orientation in relation to the Techniques to follow.
